3rd graders – new study guide for ch. 7!

3rd graders are starting a new concept today with chapter 7, imperative verbs. Imperatives are commands.  They are formed in Latin by taking a verb and removing the ending.  There are examples on the study guide.  The test will be on a Thursday, February 13th.

This handout can be used to study both chapter 7 and chapter 8 once we get to it in mid-February.

5th grade flashcards due, quiz Wednesday

Vocabulary quizzes have been getting tougher for students as their pool of vocabulary increases! Please make sure your students are studying flashcards even just a few minutes at a time on most days. A little goes a long way if they do it regularly.  They need to go English to Latin and Latin to English. Quiz for stage 7 words is on Wednesday the 29th!

4th grade – review chapter

4th graders started chapter 6 this week, which has a new vocabulary list but all review grammar. The main concept we’ll focus on is subjects and direct objects, as we did in chapter 1.  The students need to know the noun chants and know that subjects always use Nominative case (top row) and direct objects always use Accusative case (4th row).  Here is the study guide.  The test will be Friday, February 7th.

3rd grade chapter 6

Hello 3rd grade families!  The 3rd graders have now learned their final grammar chant for this year, the neuter gender version of 2nd declension.  It’s just slightly different than the masculine version of 3rd declension that they’ve learned already back in chapter 2.

They are also memorizing the adjective-noun rule for describing nouns with adjectives in Latin: Adjectives must match nouns in gender, number, and case.  The test is scheduled for Friday, January 24th. Here’s the study guide again (bottom half):
