Welcome to quarter 3! Here’s an update on classes.

As we begin the third quarter of the unique 2020-2021 school year, here is what your scholars are learning:

2nd grade:  2nd graders are continuing to receive a video in their Specialist classroom once per week.  These provide an introduction to Roman life and culture.

3rd grade:  3rd graders are starting chapter 5 in Minimus and continue to have assignments on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, with a quiz on Friday.  Chapter 5 is all about adverbs.  Students have three new vocabulary words that are adverbs.  I want them to memorize that they can always recognize an adverb because it will be a word that “adds to the verb” by answering “how?” “when?” or “where?”

4th grade:  4th graders are continuing to learn about pronouns.  At the end of quarter 2, they learned the 1st person (I/me/we/us) pronoun chant, and now they are learning a 2nd person (you/you all) pronoun chant. Scroll down to my posts about chants or see the link on the left for video demonstrations!  I want them to know that pronouns stand in for nouns, work the same way, and they should have the chants memorized.

5th grade:   5th graders are starting stage 6 of the Cambridge Latin Course, unit I, and are learning to conjugate verbs in the imperfect tense. I want them to know how to translate that tense (“was/were verbing”) and to have the chant of endings memorized. They also have a new imperfect tense “being” verb chant (the words “was” and “were” on their own), and they are learning how to translate perfect tense as well.  These are topics they will continue to use throughout the next few years!  It’s important they study the grammar sheets of notes and memorize the chants and conjugation rules.
